Conference Modeling
The ability to see,
walk through and animate a fully scaled, accurate graphical representation
of your conference during the design and pre-production process would
indeed be a powerful tool. And not just a design tool; ‘a picture paints
a thousand words’ so when submitting conceptual proposals to prospective
clients, it wouldn’t be unrealistic to suggest that an accurate
perspective drawing complete with your clients logos and corporate
colours, would present a clear marketing advantage.
So, I’m delighted to
be able to offer a quick, cost effective and fantastically useful service
from Roadshow; 3D Conference Modeling Images.

I know that’s nothing new…
CAD drawings are fairly prevalent in the industry. Certainly that’s true
but these examples represent only an insight into the flexibility of the
software. It was designed for the architectural industry but has been
seamlessly adapted for use in conference, theatre and film with remarkable
results. Uniquely, as you can see from the images above, this software
allows you present ‘reverse-engineered’ drawings. They’re drawn
perfectly to scale using a selection of rendering tools and then, as if to
suggest that they have been drawn by hand, they can be processed to look
like a freehand sketch! It’s a great way of presenting design drafts but
you might prefer 2D elevation views, textured surfaces, dimensions (in 2D
and 3D), text notes or even an animated .avi walk-through movie. You might
like to populate your drawing with delegates and presenters, technical
equipment, plants or landscape components. One of the most useful tools,
just as with more expensive CAD software is the ability to place the
conference within a realistic environment to ascertain the available
space, table positioning and general structural limitations. If you’ve
ever arrived on site to rig a show only to discover, too late, that
there’s not enough room for rear projection or that a chandelier is
obstructing the view from certain seating positions, this 3D modeling
service from Roadshow will be very welcome indeed!

So, the software’s
good… very good in fact. So, you could buy the license, practice with
the software, develop your own archive of standard Audio-Visual components
and produce your own 3D drawings. Or, preferably, you could simply
commission the services of Roadshow to produce the drawings for you.
Consider too that as an experienced Conference Production Manager, it is
appropriate that I should also be the person operating the software on
your behalf. I use it myself and have, on occasions, experimented with
ambitious designs and clearly identified prohibitive structural conflicts.
So the software inevitably becomes integral to the design process. By
commissioning Roadshow to prepare a 3D drawing of your design, you are, in
effect, getting an impartial and experienced pre-production overview of
your design.
And it really needn’t be as expensive as you might expect.
Obviously, the cost would be directly proportional to the time spent
preparing the drawing… and that is itself directly proportional to the
amount of detail you require. So, whilst it would be impossible to
quantify exactly, a basic conference could be drawn for as little as £150.
That’s still a very comprehensive set of scaled drawings featuring all
the structural elements of your set, stage, rigging and furniture with
textures and shading but may not include all the architectural detail. A
larger show with significantly more detail or an ambitious set design will
inevitably cost a little more. However, the quote is free and can be
estimated with just a simple emailed outline description of the design and
detail requirements.
